Police are on alert in Dunedin ahead of tonight’s big test between the All Blacks and Wales, but are hoping for a trouble-free evening.
Thousands of fans from around the country and overseas have poured into the city for the historic final test at Carisbrook.
A group of supporters are leading a march before tonight’s game as their tribute to the famous ground.
“We want to get as many of Dunedin along there as we can, and then it’s all go to the ground to send the old girl off. It’s going to be emotional,” says Graeme Massey of the BackingBlack Supporters Club.
The Welsh are hoping to spoil the party, but their fans are being realistic.
“I think Wales are going to be able to hold their heads up high, whether we win or not is a different matter,” said one fan.
Fans are confident the All Blacks can break their two test losing streak at The Brook.
Carisbrook’s been sold out for weeks; the final chapter adding to the buzz around the game.
“Oh it certainly does, you know, and it’d be great to see the All Blacks get up over the Welsh, and it’d certainly add to the excitement that’s been building,” says Doug McSweeney of Otago Rugby.
The traditional nude rugby game at Logan Park was also well supported.
Over a thousand spectators turned out to watch the Nude Blacks face off against the Welsh Leeks, in the unofficial curtain raiser to the big test.

“It’s well supported and it is just a bit of fun, and if you don’t like it, you don’t come,” says Dave Bourke, the Nude Blacks captain.

It was one game that wasn’t going to be ruined by a streaker – so when one female spectator tried to join in, she ended up scoring a try.
It was a tightly fought match, the Nude Blacks just edging out the Welsh in the final minutes – possibly a hint towards tonight’s result.
